Has anyone recently watched the late, late show? I'v been looking at it waiting for the love/hate interview and the crap they are showing is just unreal.. Guests that no one has ever heard of and music that you'd switch over if it was on the radio.

How the **** has the show been on TV so long :eek:

it's presented by an irritating little weasel as well, he reminds me of Roger from 101 dalmations.

    It's easy....

All you need is the strong arm of the government telling every citizen who owns ,what has essentially become a necessity of modern living, that they need to pay a monthly fee of 13 euro per month. That's how.

    No accountability.
    No competition.
    No customers.
    No choice.

Oh - you have a cell phone? Well, you'd better pay me 13 euro per month for my new AWESOME cell phone content. I'll even hire some professionals to work on the cell phone content, because, whatever, as long as I get me 100k+ salary, why not? And if nobody wants it? So what. Truth is, no matter how bad it is, *some* people will like it, and the ones that don't can't do anything about it.

And if I'm not getting enough money, I'll lobby to get the law changed. 'People aren't buying the licenses! Give me more power to collect!' That is my business model. I don't have to be concerned with customers, just how to get money from them. 'You say you don't have a phone? Well, DO YOU HAVE A HOUSE? A PLACE TO LIVE? WELL - THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY!'

If people want The Late, Late off the air it's quite simple, all they have to do is stop watching it. It still gets the most ratings out of any show each week, as long as that is the case RTE won't get rid of it or change it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" as they say. If they chance changing it in any way, they could feck up the ratings and that will effect advertising revenue.

Personally, I think it badly needs to be overhauled and think RTE should take the risk. But that won't happen unless people decide not to watch it each week. The irony of it all is that there is a thread over in the Television forum each week complaining how awful it is, yet each one of them watch the show each week until the end. Anywhoo, I'll be sticking to a bit of Netflix viewing each Friday.

All in favour of it if it means the fee doesn't increase.
You're suggesting the spongers have brought it upon themselves by not paying the license?

I like Tyan Rubridy and the late late show in a weird way. I don't watch it too often but when I do I mostly enjoy it. The thing that baffles me is the fact they have such boring topics of conversation and 2nd rate celebrity guests and musical performers compared to Brendan O'Connor's show. They can do better, they just aren't.

They'd do well if they introduced a bit of comedy onto the show. Maybe a humorous monologue or something. Like The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. That was class.

    Give RTE a break.

Its not easy creating several hours of original content per week across just 2 channels when all you have is 2,100 staff and a €400,000,000 budget.

Give me a pencil, some play-doh and a bottle of Hennessy and I could do it for half of that amount.

Irish television has a long way to go in my opinion, compared to American and British equivalents, irish t.v is almost amateur like. I watched a couple of episodes of Love/hate, maybe i should have watched more, i didnt really enjoy it, i found myself comparing it to the Wire for some reason which is probably an unfair comparison, nonetheless, it fell far, far short

That show ended* over twenty years ago and started broadcasting over fifty years ago. RTE need new ideas, not rehash old crap from the 60s and pass them off as new like they're doing now.

*I mean with that particular host, before some mouthbreather quotes me and gives me the "B-b-b-but The Tonight Show is still on the air!" guff.
