I am looking for some ideas on where to bring the family for regular bike ride. The youngest guy is three & his bike has stabilisers, so looking for a flat and easy surface either tarmac or smooth off-road.

Our county council, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown CC, have a lot of bike paths, but I'd rather be out in the country somewhere, where's there's no traffic & we're heading through woods or the like.

    Glendalough
You have the green road from the monastery to the upper lake, and along the upper lake to the miners village. macadam forestry roads

    Glenmalure
From Baravore ford up the valley to the hostel, was paved, but fairly broken now only about 1km each way

Canal Tow paths: dunno how paved they are outside of Dublin, but there are sections that are paved and others which are definitely cyclable

This might seem bizzare, but there are good sections of the military road that are fairly flat, between Glenmacnass towards the Sally gap springs to mind - I've cycled here but a long time ago and had 18 gears to lower any bumps but I remember it being flattish - definitely check it out.

The curragh is another flat place, with the added benefit of no ditches to keep it between

I have kids aged 10 down to 5 and we tend to go cycling in Shangannagh Park. The full circuit is about 5 km.

Marlay Park is a good place for small kids to cycle. There is also the Slang River Greenway which goes from Dundrum to Marlay, almost all off road, very flat; it's great for kids. Don't seem to be able to find a map online for it.

Nice, take the youngest up to Marlay regularly, but didn't know about the link to Dundrum. Will give it a go soon.
