NCT test: unable to take emmisions reading

    I'm a bit stumped here.
My car failed the NCT yesterday on emmisions, they were unable to take a reading. The guy I spoke to said that there wasn't enough fumes/gases getting to the sensor they use.
He suggested that there might be a leak in the exhaust. That's fair enough but I would have thought that if there was a hole large enough for that much fumes to escape the sound of the car would be very different and much louder than what it is.

The car is a year 2000 1.6 Petrol Ford Focus estate.

    Any suggestions?

    thanks.

Take it to your mechanic and have them check it out for you?

If there was a hole in exhaust that fumes escaped through the hole, they should fail it for that.

What does it say on your fail cert?

I had this happen to me and it was just blank with no results on that part of the cert.
