How/what are you IrJSO-ers (and IrEUSO too, I suppose ;) ) studying? How's it going for you?

Seriously I've done nothing, I wa hoping we weren't expected to do anything :(

    What preperation/study have you done?
Also are you doing the IRJSO or the EUSO?

I'm doing the IrJSO, which are you doing? I've been going through the Biology, Chemistry and Physics LC books. I have a feeling I shouldn't be telling you this (sabotaging my chances ;) ) but yeah, I'm trying to learn them as best I can. If you haven't started you probably only have time to look over the JC stuff...unless you're IrEUSO, then I don't know.

I too am doing the IrJSO but have done nothing :( I don't understand how you could cover 3 (even 1!) leaving cert courses in under a month?!

Anyways I have just been notified that I have been accepted into the Transtion Year UCD Physics course from the 2nd - 6th December which clashes with the IJSO in India from the 3rd to the 12th.

So yay, I have an excuse for not studying ;)

Why, WHY is life so difficult to manage?! I got told today that I was accepted for the UCD Physics thing - can't believe it's during the IJSO :( I've done so much work for the IrJSO that I'm not going to choose UCD over the possibility of IJSO, but ugh. Everything clashes with my schedule:( At least if I don't get the IJSO I have the UCD thing, I suppose. Unfortunately we have to accept or decline it a few days before the IrJSO.

I've nearly finished the Physics book though, then to look over my notes in the three subjects :P The courses aren't properly covered (I completely left out the experiments) In fairness, I do have a personal reason for wanting to get in ... there's someone I'm competing with ;)

Haha I wish I had your problem, there is no way I'll make the IrJSO due to not having opened a book ;)

Unless I am a really good guesser, y'know with it being Multiple Choice and all...

The answer is always 'C', when in doubt it's 'C' ;)

Ah well, at least you have UCD :) Yeah, maybe you'll guess them all perfectly by accident ;) You get a certificate anyway :)

Hey guys wishing you all the best tomorrow! At least we all get a certificate anyway :P

Oh and by the way, there's no dress code or anything is there ? :/

Good luck everybody. If I don't win, (Which is highly likely, let's be honest) I'd like one of you to.;)

I'm not aware of any dress code.

Have confidence! You have as good a chance as anyone :D

    Quick question:

Website states registration is from 10:30 to 11:45.. Does this mean we have to be there at 10:30 or we can turn up any time between 10:30 and 11:45?

    Thanks!

Did you/the person you're competing against get in? :P

Well, I didn't win. That first Physics paper was insane. The second was a little easier, but there were still a good few tough questions. Did anybody win a medal?

Hard luck mate, I told ya to pick C! ;):D

There was no multiple choice in the end! Well, there were about 3 or 4 out of 43 total but I wasn't expecting that at all.

Hi I'm doing the IrEUSO this year and I'm choosing Physics, I'm just wondering what came up on the physics last year as I'm thinking of not studying what came up last year, is this a good idea or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭A97

What came up last year was extremely broad, with material from all aspects of Physics. Anyone with an in-depth familiarity with the Leaving Cert course would be at a big advantage but not everything is on the course. There are also formula derivations which require you to have a knack for Maths well beyond an A in the Junior Cert. There are no Maths tables allowed and we needed to know the area of a circle offhand. The big question on Paper 1 was about Heat and something to do with Mass or Density if I recall correctly. I wasn't able to figure it out and it involved drawing a graph.

The winners are either people who did the JSO and were invited back the following year (possibly with 5th Year under their belt) and/or those who are extremely smart, have an interest of science outside if school and have been extensively preparing prior to actually being selected. I reckon that if you can go through your entire Physics book, and understand everything, you'd have a shot.

For those of you contemplating Biology, diabetes came up last year, which was extremely advantageous to those who had experienced, or was close to someone who had experienced it. As far as I know, that's not on the LC course so your knowledge would have to be highly extensive.

I have nothing for you lot contemplating Chemistry.:(
