I bought myself a 2012 Giant trance X4 , the guy that had it used it 3 times and only road use so had the tyres changed to road tyres when he got it.
I will only be using it for mountain biking in Portumna and Ballyhoara so now I need go pick out new tyres.

It came with Schwalbe Nobby Nic, 26x2.25 Performance from the factory but he left them to the shop when he got the road tyres.

Any ideas what I should go for?
Was looking at the Continental Mountain King II MTB Tyre in 2.4 - ok to go wider?

    Or any other suggestions.

Maxxis Ignitors. One of the best all round tyres for our weather. Go for 2.35 with a 60a compound.

Thanks - where's the best place online for pricing? I see options for wire or folding and I assume I want wire?

For all round general use, Ignitors are hard to beat.

It depends on what you want to run. If you're going to go tubeless then you want LUST. Although I have set up ghetto tubeless using wired ones. Tubeless specific tyres are dearer but have stronger sidewalls.

2.2 X-Kings are fine for what you need... and €34 a pair you can't go wrong..

Spotted this thread after I had posted in another, but realised that thread is over a year old so this one might be better to post in :)

"Hey, Without trying to sound like a complete bagle, can someone please help me...

Based on the discussion above, I have decided to go for the Maxxis Ignitors..

Currently have Bontrager xr3(http://bontrager.com/model/11641) on a trek 6500 since I bought the bike over 1 year ago... Like the lads above, Ballyhoura is my main port of call... Maybe I have it in my head that they are garbage tyres, but thats what I think they are and reckon a spill on slippy surface is overdue...

Can someone help me pick from the following 4 options as I am not sure about sizes etc as im only learning about equipment and sizes over the last 15 months... Just to be sure that I get a compatable tyre to my bike... thanks
