    HI guys,

I've had Sky tvdigital for a year now and its still doing my head in. Only about 4/5 channels worth watching. Anyway I'm to old for all this channel hopping. Im not very technical minded.

Apart from Saorview Who doe's a very basic deal- something like the old terrestial package. I dont need hundreds of channels.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

To answer your question there is only UPC in Ireland.

But perhaps you are asking about receiving stations over a sat dish, is this what you are asking?

If you just want the Irish terrestrial stations, all you need is an aerial and a MPEG4 (I think) TV. If you dont have an MPEG4 TV you can get a Saorview box or a combo sat. box like an Ariva 150

If you also want the UK stations like BBC, then you could go for a combo sat box and then just delete all the stations that you do not want.

If you could mention exactly what stations you want and if you want to pay for them or get them for free it would help in answering your question.

    Regards

Do you use favorites? Select the channels you do want, then just press the blue button to cycle through them. Same thing in the guide, select your favorites to hide everything else.

Go for a Combo box, this allows for both Irish Soarview and UK Freesat to be viewed through the one box without any Subscription to Sky.

You must have an aerial and you already have the Sky dish, so you simply hook up the box to both and away you go.

You get all the UK FTA Channels like the BBC, ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 plus with the Aerial you get all the Irish channels like RTE and TV 3.

Somethink like this is what would be needed.

Not Freesat. Ain't no Freesat combos.

It allows you to watch the UK Freesat Channels.

Ferguson 150 Ariva combo HD box will allow you to watch Freesat channels from the UK using a 60 cm dish (sky dish) as well as the new Irish Saorview digital service using an aerial.

Freesat is just an EPG & interactive services, intended to make free-to-air satellite reception "user friendly" or "idiot proof".

Why are you making the issue complicated?

Most people will understand Freesat is a bunch of UK channels free to watch via Sat, they can look up the Freesat website to see what channels are available for free, Yes some of us know that Freesat is just an EPG but this dosent have anything to do with the OP question.

They are looking for a cheaper alternative, im suggesting a box that gives them Irish Soarview and UK freesat channelswith no subs, simple as that.

Freesat means Freesat branded products, nothing complicated at all.
