Possible Emergency tax)

    Hi guys

Started a job end of July and left in p45 when starting.

In first months pay at the end of August, I was just taxed as normal.

Now I see from my wages in my a/c that I've been left short of 1000.

Not got payslip yet but can this be emergency tax considering it wasn't there last month and I left in p45?

    Cheers!

Probably Emergency Tax - Under the emergency basis temporary tax credit is given for the first month of employment but tax deductions are increased progressively from the second month on.

Talk to your payroll dept to see if they received a cert - if not; ring revenue

Thanks for your reply Citizen pain

This is the reply I got from Payroll in work, can you explain exactly what it means?

Basically we legally have to go with whatever information we download from the Revenue.

So I’ll just paste in the update from Revenue and then I’ll go through it:

[TAX INFORMATION CHANGE]: Annual Tax Credit Changed from 1,428.48 to 0.00
Annual Cut Off Changed from 22,799.40 to 0.00
Tax Basis Changed from Standard to Week 1
Previous USC Pay changed from 216.00 to 0.00
Previous USC changed from 216.00 to 0.00

So basically the major thing there is that your standard cut off point is gone to zero which means you’re being taxed solely at the higher rate. Also your tax credit is gone to zero. I think that should have been higher than 1428 in the first place.

We uploaded all your information onto Revenue, so no idea why they would have made the above changes a month later. They seem to be making a lot of mistakes lately. If you contact them and query the above information they should sort it out for you and it will come through in next month payroll.

Looks like Revenue havnt processed your P45 and sent a cert of tax credits to your employer.

On trevenues website - bottom right - key in your pps number and it'll give you the contact details for your area - ring them and just tell them your employers registered number and say a p45 was provided - can they send a certificate of tax credits and cut off point asap and take you off Week 1 basis -

do you possibly owe Revenue back tax or failed to submit a return to them when requested previously. Revenue do sometimes reset a person's credits/allowances to zero on week 1 basis when they are waiting for a person to come back to them with information.
