Just spotted this Olympus 14 MP compact digital camera on Zavvi Ebay for less than £50 delivered. The same model is £90 on Amazon so thought it was worth a mention if anyone is interested.

Cheers, I was looking out for a budget compact with very close focusing (needed for a dentistry student) and that has a "Super Macro" mode which lets you go right down to 1cm away at the wide angle setting.

That's quite a decent little camera for £50/€60, what with Dual IS, 12.5x optical zoom (24mm at the wide end is particularly nice), and 720p video recording. Not to mention the metal casing. It's not long since I paid closer to €100 for a Canon Powershot that had none of those featues going for it...

Google for reviews (I did). Serious photographers probably wouldn't rate it (or any similar camera) but for the price it's unbeatable. A well-known brand name; 12x optical zoom with two image stabilisation systems for one thing.

    I did too :P

But reviews seem to be mixed,

I suppose for the price you're right. I see they are selling the samsung st77 for around the same. might plump for that one for the panoramic setting. I had that on my last olympus camera

^ Would you be prepared to swap the 12x optical zoom for 5x zoom and the panoramic feature though? :)

Edit: The VR-320 has panorama too according to this page.

I'm no photographer lads, all I want is a camera to get some memories with nice clear shots and vibrant colors, couldn't be too much to ask could it :-)

Go for this one so! I'd say you would be very happy with it. Pick up a spare battery or two from Hong Kong / China via eBay too.

    Hi peckerhead,

Did you order one of these in the end? I purchased on September 27th and still no sign of delivery which I think is appalling to be honest

No, in the end I held off 'cause I wanted something with a hot shoe for taking a flash. A fortnight is pretty bad, in fairness — have you tried contacting them?

They were all gone for a while, but I see it's back in silver...
