I'm on the lookout for a car to make the 12 hour weekly commute, mostly motorway, a but more interesting and comfortable.

    I'm thinking I have a budget of around €4500 so I could possibly get a 2003/2004 320D E46 (for €4500) or a 525i and convert it to LPG (€3000 + €1500 conversion cost).

    Example 320D: http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-3-series-2-0-litre-diesel/5735992

Looking at tax and fuel, the 320D should be cheaper to run. But I'm reading a bit about the E46's not being the most reliable. 525i would be lovely and comfortable, powerful but more expensive in the long run. 525i not cheap to fix either.

    Opinions?

    320d.

Unless you live near a station that supplies LPG and really want to go to that effort.

At least 2 LPG stations on the commute so that's not a worry

Also thinking of taking a look at this

Does something smell a bit fishy for a 2003 car with only 63000 miles?

A Cartell check threw up nothing out of the ordinary apart from the number of seats being recorded as 0 in 2010.

Id take the 525 any day of the week non conversion tho.

And diesel is the devils juice. :D

if mostly motorway, the diesel is 6 speed, the petrol isnt... Coming from a petrol 325 driver, id go for the 320d, unless you go for an E60 petrol...
