they seem like badass guns, the only problem i can think of is their weight and size, if you like being up close and personal its going to be hard but if you like staying back and keeping peoples heads down then its the gun for you

They're fun, no doubt. Their bulk and weight is often part of the charm. I got one years ago. Used it exactly once, and it's sat I a box ever since. Occasionally being taken out for plinking or a curious mate. The one time I did use it, I used it with mid cap M4 mags and it was genuinely great.

Depending on the model, it's not that hard to use it up close. I have the Para model, which is arguably the handiest to wield due to that folding stock.
The thing to remember, is that with great ammo capacity, comes great responsibility. No point in filling the box and holding the trigger until the batteries die. The most fun is had with it by getting into the thick of things, and using it properly.

As much craic as it is, it's a pain to drag around after a few fast moving games. It's great for MilSim or open field games, where it's strengths in laying down a base of fire outweigh it's drawbacks. One other drawback with them, is the dreaded box mag rattle. It's not the biggest issue in the world, but it annoys the hell out of some (myself included). There's hacks and mods to get around that, though.
Most Irish sites are confined and/or offer enough cover to nullify heavier weaponry. LMG's like the Stoner or RPK are a bit more practical, in that they offer much the same role, in a (slightly) lighter, more compact package. That all boils down to you probably finding a lot more use for them.

I got one recently. I have used it once so far for about an hour. It's a heavy bastard to carry around but is great craic. I like to use it properly i.e. not walking forward spraying trying to mow people down until hit. I used it at LAC and find many games suit an m249. I have the para stock which makes it way easier to shoulder fire.

As Dex has said; support guns are fantastic for mil-sim games & the like. I will however disagree, in part, with Dex on fast moving "speed-ball" skirmish games, but it's all down to how you use it and whether or not your team-mates understand what it is to take advantage of having a support gun backing them up. And urban mil-sim can be as fast as any CQB environment (and in itself every building or tight alleyway becomes its own CQB environment). But yes, otherwise; fielding a support-gun & finding yourself trying to use it like a large assault rifle will be frustrating unless you are prepared to work within the confines of the handicaps of such a gun. With that said, it can be done. I've done room-clearance competitions with 11kg of joy (for a laugh I used a support gun) and been pipped to the post for 1st spot, and been in more urban milsim events than I care to remember at this stage. You'll sweat for it, but the reward is worth the effort.

Just to put it in perspective, an m249 is somewhere around 7/8kg in weight, the Stoner 63A LMG is 5kg, and the average m4 is 3kg.

edit: I should just add the caveat that if you frequently find yourself using a support gun like a large assault rifle & trying to go toe-to-toe with the other guy, you're doing something wrong and should take a look at how you're playing, how you're allowing yourself into such situations, and whether or not you would be better suited to either an LMG or an assault rifle.
