Wheel choice for G3 PowerTap hub

I had a Cosmic with a G3 hub built in to it that has had problems with the spokes.

I want a wheel to train on all the time, and then to add a disc cover to for TT-ing, and see DT or Mavic Open Pro seem to be the recommendations. Has anyone done this or can anyone recommend a wheel for it?

    Thanks

Bee Cycles (Dublin) built my G3 on an Open Pro just over a year ago. No spoke issues to date although I've never had spoke issues on any wheels. I'm 68-75 kgs (depending on time of year, no prizes for guessing which month I hit 75).

Mine is a 28 spoke rather than the more normal 32. Purely due to rush to get an in stock G3 rather than any informed decision.

Recently I've been riding some of the newer wide-profile rims and am converted. They're definitely more comfortable at the same pressures (though it is claimed you can run lower pressures and not increase rolling-resistance) and, when used with a suitable tyre, they're supposedly more aero than a rim of similar depth with a narrower rim.

Kinlin XC-279 are 27.9mm deep, 23mm wide and weigh about the same as an OpenPro. They have no eyelets so might not last as long but they're relatively cheap to a new rim every couple of years shouldn't be big deal.

Alternatively the Velocity A23 does the same thing but is a bit shallower (and more compliant if that matters).

There are other similar rims on the market from Pacenti and HED. I'd consider those too though they are more expensive.

I built a Powertap (non G3 hub) up with an Ambrosio Excellight SSC rim several weeks ago, it's early days yet but I'm happy with it so far. I did have an issue with a high spot on the rim where it is joined, which would have required more spoke tension than I was willing to live with to flatten out so there remains a bit of a high spot there. I've read only good things about this rim though (some consider is on a par with Open Pro, some consider it better) so perhaps this particular rim was just from a bad batch so I'm assuming it's not representative. In all other respects I like the rim (and have become less of a fan of Open Pro rims over the years) and I'll be using one again soon for another wheel.

I had originally planned to use an Ambrosio Excellence rim, which I believe has a thicker braking surface and is heavier, but I got the Excellight for a good price (from www.bike24.com) so went with that instead as I wanted to race on the wheel as well as train on it. If I was heavier I'd probably have done for the Excellence, but I reckon my meagre weight won't challenge the Excellight.
