    Looking at this

    http://www.harveynorman.ie/fujitsu-lifebook-ah512-m4102gb.html

Does Fujitsu have a good rep for build quality? I am looking for a cheap internet and spreadsheet machine for college, I don't need high end graphics. Should i buy or steer clear?

The other option is some kind of chromebook, maybe this is a better idea?

It is an OK deal (two weeks ago, it was reduced to €279) for a store but you'll need to add some memory (4 GB = €30). The Celeron 1000M processor compares to a 1st gen Core i3, the graphics is HD 2500 (as found in 2nd gen Core processors).
