ETB CID contract

I have a CID for 6 hours a week with one of the ETBs (formerly VEC). I'm currently looking for work, for a variety of reasons, including not enough hours at the moment.

If I take a full time job with another employer (outside the education field) what's my position with notice periods, leaving in the middle of the school year etc?

In case it makes a difference, my employer is very slack at issuing contracts. I only became eligible for this CID this year (previously I had a CID for 3 hours) and I would expect them to be slow to issue a contract. I wouldn't be surprised to never get a paper contract. I don't think I've had a paper contract for 4 of the 9 years I've worked for them.

However, I would not be surprised if they try to hold me to the terms of the CID if it suits them, despite my not having signed one.

Can anyone advise me what the terms of a CID are as regards leaving the post, and what they can hold me to if I haven't signed anything?

    Thanks very much.

the CID has nothing to do with notice periods, you must refer back to the contract which is usually 1 months notice in writing. They can hold you to that if they wish.

A 6 hour CID after 9 years? Has there been no increase of available hours in your subject since 2005?

I've had as much as 16 hours work a week, but on courses which haven't run for the time required to get a CID. The HR dept enforces the letter of the law, which is that you must teach the same subject on the same course for the required time to get a CID. Many teachers comment on the fact that courses are often run for only 3 years! I work in adult ed and there is a policy of not employing adult ed teachers on full time contracts (not sure if this is a stated policy but it exists anyway!). The casualisation which now exists in schools has long been a fact of life for us, I'm afraid.
