You need to start training right now. In fact, you should never have stopped. The greatest detriment to running progress is lack of consistency. Start now, build up a regular base. Choose a 10k race and a suitable training program (don't make it up as you go along) and run a PB. Then do the same for 10 miles, half marathon until you are finally ready to follow your marathon program, 16-18 weeks out. Hal Higdon is a great starting point for free training programs geared at different levels of experience.

I'm also hoping to run a 2nd marathon in April after having a terrible time of it in Cork this year.

In terms of building up a base I'm hoping to get consistently running about 35-40 miles a week before I start my official program in December. How should I split up those miles though? This week I have made up the following:

    Mon: Track session 8 X 800
    Tue: 5 miles easy
Wed: Tempo run 50 (25 strong) mins
    Thu: rest
    Fri: 7 miles easy
    Sat: hungover
    Sun: 13 miles slow

Airtel I'm sorry for hijacking your thread.
