I am restoring an old bike.
I am putting carbon forks on the bike. New forks have carbon steerer.
    Forks have 1 inch steerer.
I bought a new headset, but it has a star fangled nut.
I don't want to use this, as I'm afraid, that it would damage the steerer tube.
Does anybody know, where I would get an expander plug for a 1 inch steerer tube?

My bike (with carbon fork/steerer) has a star nut, which I was told is incorrect. Is it possible to remove this or is it a case that when in place they stay there? Has been there a while anyway as I got the bike (second hand) over a year ago and I haven't died yet. Is it a lethal defect?

The star fangled nut works by "biting" into the inside of the steerer. Carbon is quite soft, compared to alloy. I'd be afraid, that the nut would damage the steerer.
On the other hand, if it hasn't done damage by now, you might be alright.

Thanks for that. Just realised after posting my question that I really have a lot to worry about.
