    Hi guys :)

Need a bit of advice/guidance. My partner has a Takamine G series guitar. Used to play in bands etc now just plays at home as a hobby. He loves the guitar he has but it has a crack along the back. I would like to get him a new guitar for xmas but not sure whats the next step up in the guitar world, can any of ye point me in the right direction? Should I stay with G series and buy another or is there an upgrade within the series?
Don't want to ask him as its a surprise and if i did lead the conversation to try and find out he would guess straight away !! If he knew he wouldn't let me buy him one as he thinks its too expensive etc etc but I think he deserves it !

    Thanks :)

tough to buy a guitar for him as he really would want to try first, it's not like buying a computer sometimes a cheaper can sound feel better than a dearer one.

    You dont mention budget?

I would consider having his guitar professionally repaired as a gift? Gerry haze would sort that for you

or go round the music stores with him and let him try out guitars and if he finds one in your budget he expresses a lot of love for go back later and get it as a surprise.

Either way he's lucky to have you! :-)

You could always bring the takamine into somewhere like Guitar Center, Goodwins etc
where they can guide you to a similar guitar with the same neck profile, fret size, tone etc

All very important things when choosing a guitar
at least youll have something to guide you in the right direction

Get a voucher, a bit impersonal but if you explain that its for a guitar he'll appreciate it because as has been pointed out its all a matter of what feels right to the individual.

Guitars are so personal. I don't know how much Takamine G's are, but do get a quote for repair from one of the names mentioned in this forum, then you can decide whether it's even worth having repaired.

So, repairing is one option. The other is buying a gift voucher for at least the same amount as a new Takamine G or equivalent would cost. That leaves things open to decide to put it towards a different guitar altogether.

Honestly, I've spent so long looking for guitars that just do it for me, it's inexplicable, but you just know, and each one is different, even the same models.

Also, these pieces of wood build up a huge amount of sentimental value.

A third option is to do up a nice card and homemade gift certificate that would offer your partner the option of repairing it (if it's really expensive) or getting cash/a voucher towards a new one.
