What are Aer Lingus like to fly back from USA. For instance from Chicago to Dublin. Mostly in terms of comfort and in flight entertainment as its an 8 hour flight. Some 8 hour flights are grand but wonder if 8 hour flight with Aer Lingus is bad or not?

I've used them several times to Boston. Food is grand and there's a movie or two as well.

Use Aer Lingus most of the time for travel to/from the US. Think they are amongst the best for this route. I always feel once you step on the Aer Lingus plane you are home.

Aer Lingus are probably the best carrier between Ireland and US. Nice aircraft and passenger not cramped on those B757's which mostly operate towards the US in winter.

I must be the exception here, I think they are poor and would pay extra not to fly with them. I find the staff on any of the US based airlines to be a thousand times more helpful and friendly, the food better, and the overall experience more pleasant.

    I have to agree.

I'm a big fan of EI's short-haul product and their staff are generally a pleasure to interact with, but I've been underwhelmed by aspects of their transatlantic service on the last few occasions I've flown with them.

I've been back and forth with five different carriers so far this year and just felt in comparison with the others, EI's crew appeared a little disengaged and lacking in personality - something I've always considered a real strongpoint of the airline.

That's just my experience mind, it's perfectly possible many have encountered the precise reverse.

Ive booked with them anyways. Bit limited on the time I wish to book for anyways so AI was only real option. Happy enough they should be ok at least.

I honestly think the carriers are much of a muchness, I have travelled on most of the big carriers (have never flown Delta) and I think they are all fine. My favourite would be Continental (now United) as the staff are very friendly, the food is good (for airline food) and there is a good selection of movies. The only one I would not travel with again are American Airlines, I recently flew with them to Chicago and they didn’t have seat back TV’s or on demand movies. That left it a long flight.

But Aer Lingus are fine, all you want is for them to be on time, get you there in one piece and have a few movies on. AL tick all those boxes, so you will be grand. Enjoy your trip!

Have only ever flown with them on long haul so don't have anything to compare to but I think they're grand. Have used them for several return flights to Chicago. Every seat has a dedicated on demand screen with radio, films, tv shows and a couple of cheap games iirc, pretty decent choice as well. Would definitely recommend paying for an exit row seat or one with extra legroom if you're taller (I'm 6ft6'!), did that last time and will be paying for it in future for sure. The food is your standard fare, not great but acceptable.

Flew with Virgin Transatlantic a few years ago. At the time Virgin had an award winning entertainment system, before it became more standards on other airlines. You could choose from dozens of films, programs and games on your own screen, pause and play when you wanted.
Have also flown with Delta and while choice of films was good, they all started at the same time, so if you finished one, you had to wait til the longest one finished for the films to begin again. You did get your own screen though and could pause.

Yeah looks like Aer Lingus have an on demand entertainment system which is good. Flew transatlantic with Delta and found them ok, was few months back.
