No, it wasn't one of the locals -

This two-metre-long phallic object has been dubbed the 'Lahinch Langer' after being discovered in heavy sand on a beach.

Tickled Locals in Clare christened it after it was found on Sunday morning.

The object, covered with a mixture of shells and tentacles, has been baffling them ever since.

The 'langer' was found not far from the 12th teebox at Lahinch Golf Club in North Clare.

The shells and tentacles have been examined by Dr Eamon Doyle of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark.

After studying it he revealed they were a massive colony of thousands of small crustaceans known as goose barnacles.

Unlike other shellfish such as crabs and lobsters, goose barnacles do not crawl along the seabed but instead attach themselves using tentacles to floating material in the sea and filter food from the water.

Thousands latched onto a phallic-shaped structure – which cannot be identified because of the sheer number of goose barnacles.

In Dublin we call them, "worms".
You see them after you throw washing up water onto the grass.

    Six foot eh?

My friend Billy had one of them.

He was very proud of it and used to love displaying it.

That was all fine until the fateful afternoon when he showed it to the girl next door.
