I'm almost sure this was covered in the FAQ but I wasn't positive I was reading it right. If I wanted to use a criminology and forensic psychology degree as a behavioural analyst within the Garda would I need to be a uniformed Garda first? Or did I read that wrong?

All Gardaí career path begin as recruits in Templemore and are cemented by several (5 through to 10) years service in uniform on a regular unit before they see any lateral or vertical movement or 'promotion'.

I would suggest seriously analysing your motivations towards joining AGS if your intention is to become a behavioural analyst as the chances of that materialising in the short to medium term (first 10 to 12 years of service) are very slim.

You could also enter as an Administrative Officer through the Civil Service
as they work as analysts also.

There are no Garda behaviour analysts. Any used would be hired externally on a temporary basis.
