Kiely's in Blarney where out with me today and i couldn't say enough about the lads delivering them. Very helpful, as it wasn't an easy job. slats were very reasonable.

I would not get too hooked up on trying to get the ''best slats''. The Dept spec is fairly high now and all slats should have a 40ish + year lifespan. I be trying to price as compeditive as possible. You will get all sort of claims about how my slat is bigger and better and has bells and whistles. I be going on price.

all should be to the dept spec and come with a guarentee.

got ours from croom concrete back in 07 (eventually). they were best price wise and were able to deliver when i wanted (lots of the other places had up to a year lead time) anyway i had to hound them as soemone in teh office made a cock up and had forgotten to add my name to the production list.

got soem concrete stuff from keilys over teh last few years and they were very good to deal with

things arent as manic nowadays so lead time shouldnt be an issue.

where you are will add to the cost of transport. so i'd say get out your golden pages and starting ringing around.

make sure delivery and fitting is included in the price.

I bought a lot of slats of Wrights in Monaghan last year they have a very good name around my part. I think you have to purchase the best in your own area because haulage prices have increased so much probly become uncompetitive price wise

All the slats for the piggery I work in came from Wright's we're in north tipp. Think there's a few more loads coming next week.
The first ones were for a shed 100 foot by288 foot

Wrights of Swan Cross considered best up our way. I have some down 20 years and still perfect. Uncle has a shed with Masstock single slats, approaching 40 years built. Weanlings only on it now.

Replaced mine this year after 24 years. A big lump came off one of them couldn't believe how rotten they were underneath.

What should I be paying for a four bay 14'6 one agitating point?

24 years does not seem like an awful long period.

We used to let silage effluent plus formic acid in to the tank years ago. About half them crumbled underneath when lifting them out.

Also cows are standing on them during milking so was taking no chances

What did you do with the old ones?

Sold half of them and used the others as a base for entrances into fields. Flipped them upside down and filled with shale

IMO, Biggest problem is leaving the slurry come up to the underside of slat. if you can keep the slurry a few inches below the slats then they will never be resting in the liquid and you will have a longer lifespan.

Last job I did I used Croom concrete slats, one of the lads doing the tank said they were cheaper than seconds from Banagher. Shop around OP is my advice. Heard of some Laoise crowd who dropped a slat when it was being laid, broke up in sh1te, no steel in at all. Shouldn't be a problem with reputable companies though.

If you are letting effluent into the tank, use a long (60cm) wavin pipe so that the effluent doesn't trickle down along the inside wall of the tank.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    Bump

Have researched here to determine the best slat at a reasonable price. Common opinion seems to be Bannagher are best but also the dearest. I have a quote from Croom concrete that is around 1500 cheaper (5 bays, 16"6') but some lads here have said that they wouldn't touch them.

Can anyone shed some light on the deficiencies with Croom Slats?

My advice is change them now . Our gangs were 25-30 years old and a few of them were starting to chip. When we changed them we noticed they had all bowed and the internal agitation slat just disintegrated around the man hole when we liffted it out.
