A replacement engine was put into a 07 mini as there was a little crack in the old engine, Im sure this will add value to a car, but just wondering if anyone would know how much?

    How would it add value?

Only if there is very little miles on the new engine and you can back it up with proof what mileage is on it then... maybe?

this engine is brand new and has no miles on it. The whole engine had to be replaced as it was damaged internally, and BMW will only cover 80% of the parts and engine. The car probably always had this damage!

In my opinion it will add very little to the value I'm sorry to say, I'd think €500 would be optimistic.

It won't add anything. It would do the opposite. People don't like to see that a car has had a replacement engine. New or not.

if thats the case paying €2000 towards the engine won't make much sense

    No, no it won't.

so should I suggest trading it in or does anyone else have any advise? €2000 is going to be hard to come by

    So €2000 is your 20%?

I recon your paying a much bigger % than you think.

Well 2000 quid will get you an 07, working car that you know. Might not be the worst of ideas. Just so long as you don't think of it as adding anything to the car in terms of value. Because the car without an engine is not going to sell for very much at all.

yes should be running better than ever now, I was quoted €500 and the car was in the garage for 4 months, (although they did give me a replacement car) BMW said they paid for 80% of parts and engine, and 20% of the labour and now my bill is i€2000!!!

Changing engine no matter what mileage on it will devalue the car.

Get them to explain the breakdown of that bill, price a new engine at another dealership first, as in supply only.

I think they have the work carried out allready..

ok that equates to €1600 labour and €400 parts paid by you, also equates to 1600 parts 400 labour paid by the garage.

all very 50 /50 to me.

they do have the work done already, but i agreed as it was for €500, but now that they have changed the bill so never got a chance to price it anywhere else,

If you only agreed €500 then where not contacted before they increased the bill, then you should refuse to pay, they had no authority to spend your money to that extent.

Yes i agree, they are going to get back to me tommorow when the service manager will talk to me. Not to mention the 4 months that they had it with very litttle contact

Use that, as in you where reluctant to go anywhere in fear of putting miles / wear / damage on "their car". Meantime your car was lying in the garage, possibly in bits, depreciating, getting bits used off of it for testing other cars, etc.

    Dont flinch, dont pay.

You have a brand new engine in a Mini for €500?

I'd be cracking open the champagne for that one!

Seriously? We are talking about a brand new engine here...

Even if the engine fitted was used, I can't see it devaluing the car, tbh. Assuming the replacement engine is good.
