Don't forget that there's a shut off valve by your gas meter so if you smell gas and can't locate the source, shut off supply to your house.

Carbon monoxide alarms are not substitutes for smoke alarms, and vice versa. Combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are available.

Make sure your wall vents and window vents are unblocked and clean of dust to allow proper background ventilation.  :)

With any type of heating - gas, oil or open fire - get them checked regularly and its not a bad idea to make sure the house is well ventilated to ensure any unwitting build up of carbon monixide has some means to escape.  Of course, having a carbon monixide alarm installed is a good way to go and make sure its batteries are regularly checked.
