LPT vent

OK, so this is probably more of a vent than anything, but I can't believe this country that is so full of robbing b@stards! I'm not normally one of these pessimistic "Ireland is the worst" type people but this made my blood boil.

OK, so my mother is renting our family home, and with the first notices I got a letter about it (there are 4 other people living in the house. It appears, they just picked on me because I'm the only one in full time employment), I don't own the house, or even pay the rent (I actually live elsewhere, I just haven't changed my address because its close by and its a constant address, saves me having to change details when I move from my apartment, whatever), so its not my problem to do there dirty work and find out who should actually get this bill - so I ignored it. Then a number of months later I got a second letter telling me to pay or it would be deducted from my wage... I got this letter the day before I was set to go to the US for a month, I couldn't call so I sent an email, which was an option in the letter. I basically said that it wasn't my property and that my mother rents it and they would have to contact her to get the landlords details. After that I kind of forgot about it.

Now, this month I notice they have taken €118 from my pay packet. I'm actually shocked that they have just taken my money without my consent for something they have no proof that I owe, is that not basically stealing? So, I called them up and they said that I need to give them the landlords details, again, why am I to do someone elses job, I have to spend another half an hour on the phone after I get these details to pass them on, I'm busy enough in work without having to do this. I asked why I never got a response from my email, to which they said they hadn't recieved any email... I told her to look again, and they did get it and said someone would get to it eventually (sent over a month ago now). Again, I'm completely shocked that they decided to deduct money from my account before reading my response, take money first, ask questions later!!

I pay enough tax to them through my wage, my car, my TV etc. without them taxing me another pointeless tax they made up to rob us, especially when its not even mine to pay!

Did you tell them that you don't own the house?

I sure did, I told them I didn't own it and that my mother rents it, they told me they couldn't do anything until I provide them with the landlords details.

So just provide them with your mothers details so? And get yore ma to refund you!

And yes the taxman has powers that let them dip into your bank account or pay packet (via tax credits) - otherwise noone would pay!

They wouldn't accept my mothers details, who I asked them to contact, they said it had to be landlord.

Very frustrating, like if it was anything else I could not pay and then get a summons or whatever and have my say, but they just go ahead and take it without any proof that I should be the one to pay it.

Also on a side note, the property ID ends with my mothers initials, which leads me to believe they have her details but just chose to pick on me because I have a pay packet.

Is it your mothers house ? Or is she renting from someone else?

My mother rents it, I don't know how the exact in and out of how LPT works, but she may have to pay under long term rental or something.

Property owner pays lpt. Can your mother not give you the details of who she pays rent to ?

Ah sorry, I thought yore ma was renting it to you. As above the property owner must pay this charge.

So just give the revenue the owners details and they will refund you. Aren't they clever getting you to do the detective work? Saves lots of taxpayers money \o/

    Email wouldn't suffice.

You should have sent back the LPT letter with a note that stating you aren't the property owner.

Happened to me when the letters came out...for a property I was renting in 3 years previous. Lazy work on their behalf tbh
