Post-Interview Waiting to hear back mode

Is the general rule that if you get a phone call then it's a good sign whereas if you get an email or don't hear anything back, within, for example, 2 weeks then the likelihood is that you're corporate roadkill?

How do you cope with the waiting period? Do you pick up little clues or queues in interviews that suggest you have a real chance at being the appointed one? Maybe a certain comment or question from the interviewer raised your hope, any little signs during interview stage that you are a favoured one?

For your first paragraph, I'd say yes to be honest.

As for the waiting period, generally I just wait it out, and if I haven't heard after a week and the recruiter is ignoring me, I accept I haven't done well.

I would generally come out of an interview knowing the outcome, one I had recently a particular area that I am weak in was highlighted (I know I'm weak in it) and it was pivotal to the role, and I ended the interview knowing that if there was a candidate with better strengths in that area I was goosed.

    Sure enough there was :)

I've been offered work via email before. If you had an interview and you don't hear back in two weeks and you know that their recruitment period has ended then I think you can send a polite email asking if the panel has reached a decision.
