Probably asked a million times, been offered a job with a jeep for transport, the job is providing the jeep & commerial road tax, but I have to provide insurance, so where should i go as i dont know whether i need private or commercial insurance, 2 seat jeep & may be used to do a bit of hunting or transporting my dogs.

well might as well start with a good local broker. get as many quotes as possible from her/him and then drop into their offices to see if you can better the brokers quote. start with FBD. your work probably getting you a newish jeep , so prob looking at comp insurance. My yoke is a 1997 trooper, only worth about 2000, and insurance with FBD is 320 tpf&t .

How can you insure something you don't own? One principle of insurance is that you must have an interest in it, ie own it.

You need private tax if you use it for hunting or transporting dogs, basically anything not directly related to your work, and commercial insurance if your carrying goods.

Don't worry about the private tax.

No-one will say a word to you. You'd be throwing your money into a endless pit...

How many commercials 4x4s are privately taxed? very very few.
There is a reason for that.

Also because you are nit named on the log book it's not up to you what tax is on it.

On a related note, does one have to have commercial insurance for commercial tax and vice versa?

I think the tax office just want to see a current insurance certificate , never knew then to look for the terms and conditions. not much difference in private versus commercial insurance, in my experience.

    Yes commercial insurance and tax

    Cool, good to know.
I'm not sure I will have the vehicle insured before it is taxed anyway. Good to know.:)

I taxed my crew cab recently and they did not want to look at the insurance cover note. Just fill in the details on the tax form.

They told me that's the way it's done online so that's the way it's done in a motor tax office now.

On insurance - I've been with insuremyvan.ie for the last year at €375.00. The renewal (from Aviva) is €840.00!!!!!!!.

Zurich will do it for €460.

    Time to shop around.
