Hey guys just looking a little help.
The drivers door on my mk4 golf is closed and won't open from inside or out. It is unlocked.
    All other doors are fine.
Any ideas of how I can open it? I really don't want to go to VW for them to hand me a big bill to cut my interior panel off.

    Thanks for any help.

    Marty

your door lock is faulty and will need to be replaced, the best way to open the door is to have somebody inside pressing the central locking button repeatedly whilst you thump the door in the area of the lock and with persistence the door should open for you.

Thanks paultronix, I've gave this a try and still no movement.
Any other ideas or shall I just keep bashing it until I have to go to vw?

That is a bit of a sticky situation since door needs to be open in order to get the door card off, in order to get to the lock mechanism.

I know. I managed to open the card at the top and could see down but it was impossible to get to the lock. If I could just get it open once I've got the parts to replace it. Talk about a pain in the arse.

You may have to cut into the card to remove the bit that cover the lock, and then replace the whole card.
Tbh take to a dealer or someone who know these cars well. Maybe they knows some trick..

it will normally work but can take some time and patience as well as a sore hand:mad: so might be an idea to wear a glove, the door lock fails because of bad/cracked solder points in the electrical side of the lock so by banging it you are trying to shock it into making a connection to release.
