Has anyone played Killeen course recently in Killarney??? What condition is the place in?

I saw on the website that the rate is €90 per person mid-week.

    I'll second this,
i'd go as far as saying that the course and greens are in better condition than they were for the Irish Open a few years ago.
Hats off to our new head greenkeeper and his staff

Has the hollow coring and sanding definitely been done, if so then charging the full whack for the open is a little bit cheeky.

Ya I thought the same thing but I contacted the club and left a message asking about it but no response at all.

Also a member of killarney Greens on kileen have been spiked with the small tines. Not 100% but still a decent surface.
Defo have not been hollowtined and sanded.
Never worth €90 though. Opens are decent value

€90 is a bit steep imo
we asked for a deal there last year for 8 guys to play early on a saturday morning on our annual overnight to Kerry
would not budge on price so lost out on golf, 8 steaks and at least 32 pints:D had a minibus before you ask:p
went to waterville instead and they were more than happy to do a deal...and a much better track

€55 per head, lovely creamy pints and nice food:D

Reckon we left €800 at the club that day, I was amazed that Killarney being so short of cash last year refused and even gave us the line of 'we are an Irish open course' when justifying the 90 quid per head.

Sounds good!! What time of the year was that? Might get a couple of 4balls together myself some weekend and head down there. Cheers

Edit to say I love the layout in Killarney. And it's condition has improved no end throughout the year. Early in the year it was shabby enough but since all the upheaval and restructuring it is back in great shape to be fair. I'd normally play with a member or play opens there so I'd never be paying more than €40.

was 1st saturday in October last year i think, got great weather and course was super and staff were great i have to say.

by the way, The town was dead so we overnighted in Kenmare and had more lovely creamy pints there

Agree that Killeen is a great course too and have played it many times over the years but their price point seems to be a bit off over the last few years, personally would not pay €90 for a round these days, especially when booking for 8, that will eat and drink after the round

Thinking of heading down to play Killeen away over the next few weeks. Any member can tell me whether the greens are hollow tined or when's it scheduled?

What sort of condition is the place in? I love playing there every year.

Played there on Tuesday and the dimples from being hollow thinned were still slightly visible. They weren't bad though. The rest of the course was in great shape.

Thanks very much. I've rang and sent two emails looking for information, but the person I spoke to couldn't tell me the information and I didn't even get a response to either email!!!! Not great service imo.

All I wanted to know was when the hollow tining taking place so I could avoid the greens being in poor condition.

That is poor service for sure. I will keep u posted.

I played Killeen today. The greens were decent. There was still a light layer of sand visible on them, but nothing major. Overall they are not at their best but they are pretty decent.

If you are interested in playing with a member for a bit cheaper just drop me a pm.

The greens were really good yesterday. No sand, no dimples. Really smooth but not super fast.
