My bike was stolen from my house during the night. I've checked adverts, gumtree etc to no avail. Are there places worth checking for it that I don't know about?

I've seen stolen bikes been sold locally for the likes of €50 for a bike worth €600. I'd say search around your local area even though its unlikely that's it in your area its still worth a try.

Given posters are not allowed to identify "suspicious" sellers or shops there probably is not much useful info that can be posted here

I appreciate that. I'm more looking for advice in a hypothetical format - ie if my bike was stolen I'd look on www.stolenbikes.ie

    So pissed off.

Hypothetical car boot sales, or sold to people known to the thief. Expensive bikes are re-sprayed or stripped for parts.

Was it stolen from the actual house??!! Did they go into the house to take it like? Or was it from a shed or something outside?

Bad luck either way. :( Best thing you can do is post up the details of the bike I suppose on the off chance that someone might come across it.

I've spent much too much time at car boot sales over the last few years and I've never seen anything close to a decent bike been sold. Always rusted crap. I've heard of the odd one showing up, but they're usually the owner's and at a price that no-one there can afford or is willing to pay.

On top of that, the revenue/social have been going around taking photos of people's regs to try and catch those making an extra few tax-free bob, so another reason you don't see them too often.

I've been to a certain street in town where the selling of bikes is regular enough, but it's not a car boot, and I wouldn't actively encourage anyone to go there looking for their stolen bike, and was at another which was raided by the Gardaí, but that was for pirate DVDs.

Places like 'The Hill' casual market on North Cumberland Street in Dublin's inner city (between Parnell Street and Cathal Brugha Street) - early on a Saturday morning.
