Hey folks.. Just noticed yesterday that while parked up there was some kind of leak coming from the engine. I'd only popped into the shops, so the engine was running with the ac on(missus and nipper were waiting in the car) as it was humid as hell yesterday..

Would I be right to say this would be caused by the ac? I've not noticed it any other time..

    btw it's a 04 Santa Fe(Diesel)

Jesus don't be recommending people taste A/C leaks. Unless you want a manslaughter case!

Dipped my fingers in it and had a sniff.. Seemed to be just water(possibly a tiny bit of oil or something as it had that look when you mix a small bit of oil with water..

You are right the man would really die from a droplet of water on his finger tip and i of course having recommended this course of action on the interent would be 100% liable for his tragic and untimely death. I would be dragged from behind my computer and charged in the glare of the public spotlight with Manslaugther via Ethernet,it would be a landmark case and one that would change the internet forum forever more.

If it only happens when AC is running then it is just plain water/condensation. Nothing to worry about and harmless.

    Its filled with refrigerant!

Maybe again I'm wrong, but in normal athmospheric pressure and temperature, this refrigerant is in form of gas. So I can't see any possiblyty of any liquid leaking.

As far as I know under high pressure in the a/c systrm the coolant is a vapour, then under normal pressure it is condensed to a liquid.

Either way, recommending someone taste it is just crazy!

Key words there, will you stop with the crazy talk? The water that leaks from your car is moisture that came from the air inside your car,it builds up in the codenser and then is dumped. If it didn't kill you in the car in then a drop on your finger isn't going to kill you either!!

    I think it's opposite.

How else are you going to find out what the leak is.
No one adviced to drink a glass of braking fluid.
We are talking about taking drop on your finger to touch your tongue.
I do it all the time if I want to find out what the leak is, and so far I didn't die.
