Netflix, the best value brand in years?

Recently signed up to Netflix and it's the best value I've got on anything that charges €7 a month or close to it in years. It doesn't have the latest releases and everything on it can be torrented for free but it's the sheer convenience of it all.

What else do you think offers amazing value for money?

And no, illegally downloading things for free doesn't count ;)

Lidl, Ryanair and JD Wetherspoons. The unholy Trinity of awesome value.

I give number one handjobs for 5 euro in all of Irelande, make you smile long time, always leave with the happy endings. :)

I do like Netflix, and things like Breaking Bad, House of Cards etc are really upping the game. I have no problem giving them €7 a month. One episode of Super HD breaking bad on the TV with no hassle is well worth €7 alone...

Spotify is pretty good value for money.

ffilms.org is a great website for films, I've watched lots of classics that I never thought I'd rent/buy.

And I hope this doesn't breach the charter.

There's a tipping point though and I think after years of fighting downloads the movie/TV industry is finally embracing how it can benefit from the internet.

Screw paying out a measly 7 euros a month that takes away most of the hassle of looking for good things to watch?

I do agree with the OP. I like Netflix, I know its not the most up to date film site but I hate watching anything on my laptop Im just odd so Netflix is perfect and I do think its getting better

and Im actually impressed at the rate of delivery on mobile. save a few deadspots on my commute I can stream anything I want pretty consistently.

the hassle of searching for live file locations, the inevitable storage, the marginal risk involved, frankly its just easier to stream. I mean lately I've just been keeping entire seasons of star trek running on the 2nd screen as background noise and theres just no beating the consistency. You'd see collections online where a couple episodes here or there are of dodgy quality and theres just not nearly the same consistency to it.

Documentary selection is decent. Films a bit meh. Probably worth the 7 quid a month overall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

you have to figure, for the cost of hard disk space you could spend as much on a year of netflix as a paltry 1 or 2 terabytes of storage, meanwhile you could end up streaming 10x that over the course of the same 1-2 years of netflix you could pay for.

    84 a year for netflix.
In storage ive pissed through double that on Battlestar Galactica alone

It's great value but the movie selection, especially new releases, is terrible. It needs more new movies from the top Hollywood studios and less Jason Statham/50 Cent-starring straight to DVD action movies.

On the contrary, every movie collection needs more Jason Statham movies.

Netflix needs a grundle section though. Very few 'flix' a man can relieve himself to on there.

I've been borrowing my brother in laws Apple TV this week, together with netflix its fantastic . I've watched loads of films that I'd never of seen , just reading through the descriptions, its like going back to the good old days in video shop .
Defo worth 7 euro, I'm going to start watching breaking bad this week , I watched 1st ep last week and it looks good.
All I need to do now is go out and buy Apple TV .

Does netflix stream in HD now? Is there any limits on what you can watch for €7.
Is breaking bad and Dexter fully up to date?

They have new episodes of Breaking Bad every Monday. Last time I checked they have up to Season 6 of Dexter but tbh evreything after Season 4 of Dexter is absolute shíte.

    Probably since 5p Tangy bars.

Net"flix" is false advertising because the selectio of flix is pathetic unless you're a fan of bollywood movies or obscure foreign gay&lesbian movies.

I think the movie selection is getting better, I wasn't expecting to see the hobbit or alice in wonderland (depp) on it

Season 8 is the latest Dexter.
I don't see the point in paying for Netflix when I'll still have to download sometimes.
If €7 per month insures me against ever getting the Pirate fine/prosecution I would consider it but its not at that stage yet.

It's just over the price of a pint, less than a packet of cigarettes and what you'd pay for popcorn in the cinema.
It's not amazing but it's getting better (especially with their own shows) and as for value for money it's brilliant.

And they make over 7 million euros a MONTH from their Irish and UK customers alone so their kitty bank for aquiring more film rights is building nicely

If it has the kind of content you like I think it's incredibly good value. Personally, it wasn't what I expected as it didn't have any of the things I wanted to watch. I was hoping it would have all the old episodes of tv shows I like - I'm not that bothered about new content. Same with the films - I wasn't looking for new ones but none of the ones I wanted were there.

It's great that you can have the free trial and can cancel whenever you like. I think the whole idea of it is great but it just doesn't cater to what I wanted.

Netflix' tv selection is great, introduced me to: Breaking Bad, Dexter, Sons Of Anarchy, Justified, It's Always Sunny... , Luther, Black Mirror, This is England, Under Belly, Weeds, Castle, Archer, Battlestar Galactica, Mythbusters to name but a few.

Love burning through older stuff: Buffy, Star Trek Next Generation, Stargate Atlantis, Red Dwarf, The Office, South Park, QI, Jonathan Creek, 24, Lie to Me, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, Teachers, Great Attenborough/Palin docs, Louis Theroux's stuff is amazing.

Great for lesser known movies you'd never watch on TV or even hear about (The Indie Game Movie, Dogtown and Z Boys, Milk, Capote, VHS, Art of Conflict)

€7 a month? Eh yes please.

I'm also liking Sky's Now TV app on PS3, I've been getting it for £1 for 6 months. Not worth the full price though (something like £15 I think)

Films are a bit crap on netflix though.

Films like Thor, captain america and the hobbit as well as classics like the godfather?

Either your very picky or trolling...

Breaking bad for example, saw 1 season on sale for more than €20

€7 you could watch all the episodes up to the most recent

    House of cards, arrested development

... But yeah... They're all crap

    Guess I like crap so
