terrible scenes of innocent people being massacred in a shopping mall..........why?

because they're not muslims, that seems to be the case anyway.

    will it happen here eventually?

Kenya isn't a predominantly Muslim country.. Pockets are like Oldtown in Mombasa. This is terrible if it's true. I found Kenyans to be really gentle and happy as a nation :(

Had lunch in that shopping centre while in Nairobi last year! Have a couple of friends living nearby. Sometimes I just wonder why.

Al-Shabaab have said they did it, and anyone who was non-Muslim was shot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,073 ✭✭✭✭bnt

According to new reports, a Somali Islamist group called Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility. The shooters explicitly targeted non-Muslims:
The Economist correspondent in Nairobi, Daniel Howden told the BBC he spoke to one man with a Christian first name but a Muslim-sounding surname who managed to escape the attackers by putting his thumb over his first name on his ID.

However, the man told Mr Howden that an Indian man standing next to him who was asked for the name of the Prophet Muhammad's mother was shot dead when he was unable to answer.
Great advertisement for the "religion of peace"... maybe they think that they'll have peace once they kill all non-Muslims, but given the Shia/Sunni divide, that's not a remote possibility. I would say more, but this is AH.

The sad fact is that terrorism, along with its pointless violence works, in the long run.

That really is insane. I know it happens in a lot of countries including here in the past, but just think about it.. Shot dead because of your religion. It really does test your faith in humanity.

Radical Islamists hurt Muslims as much as others

99% of Muslims are decent folk. Poverty plus extremism will result in these attacks

Apparently the attack is in retaliation against atrocities committed by the Kenyan army in Somalia. I don't understand how they think bursting into a public place and shooting dead civilians does any favours for their political point though.

On its Twitter feed, al-Shabab, which has links to al-Qaeda, said it was behind what it called the "Westgate spectacle"

Imagine if such a scenario played out in this country, armed gang holed up in a shopping centre holding hostages, demanding some unattainable deal from the authorities?

It's not that we haven't the police and military capacity to deal with it, but we've turned into such a nation of softies the terrorists would be knee deep in Fr. Trendy type clergymen, bleeding hearts, and cheerleading anti-rascist supporters before you could say Al Queda!

99% per cent of japanese were probably "decent" folk, if you didn't count their mental supremacist beliefs. Firebombing them to f**k softened their cough in that regard

    You badass.

Unfortunately he's right though. This was a disgusting event and we have to realize and question why it's not being labelled as a horrible sectarian attack in the Western media as it would be if Christians did this to Muslims (which I don't condone in the least).

We have become so politically correct that we cannot label things for what they are - these animals who did this should be labelled as such and ripped to pieces in the Western media.

Besides, Islam is not a race. It's a religion. You can't change your race, but you can change your religion. So, calling Islam a divisive delusion is not discrimination, because people can escape if they want to.

No - but I fail to see how that makes me not supposed to be absolutely revolted by the incident in question.

    Who's not revolted?

I'm glad it's not just being portrayed as a "Ooh, nasty Muslims don't like Christians" thing. Yet at least. While these conflicts often end up manifesting themselves on a small-scale in sectarian and racist ways, it's generally not the root cause. I'm just very tired of certain people trying to make everything into a "bloody lefties" thing, and I hate lefties. :pac:

As it happens I've noticed things aren't being portrayed a little bit more greyly since the west started supporting those guys in Syria who were apparently the bad guys a decade ago. Funny that.

O I'd imagine so, given the OP's fixation. Doubtless after they've banned pork, stout and craic, they'll take to shooting up the place for amusement. It's what they do, so I'm told.

....odd you don't pick up the OP's rather low bit of xenophobia "will it happen here eventually?", or take them to task over using a tragedy to further their agenda.

Odd that you said nothing negative about the people who carried out the attack, rather than attack someone who,as far as we know, hasn't murdered anyone on account of their religion.
As for the future ? who knows, bet the poor innocent civilians in Nairobi didn't see anything in the tea leaves either.
