Last night we just caught the end of the LLS and the question to win a fabolous prize of a trip to NY with €10000 spending money was...Whats the name of the cup Dublin and Mayo are playing for The Sam Maguire, Gerry Maguire or Nevin Maguire.
The OH grabbed her new smartphone and within half an hour had the correct answer

I remember in the 80s mum writing dowm 5 questions and trying to get the answer.
    This got me thinking.
Why such an easy question for a great prize. Surly someone who deserves it would have to desypher some questions or methinks RTE make the question accessible to make money on the texts.

...because they have to have a question to make it a contest as opposed to a lottery, which would require a licence. They're always very easy questions.

I'm not sure if you're messing but if not it's because it's a premium rate phonecall and they want as many people calling in as possible.

I am sure that the questions are that easy for precisely that reason! Many entries make more money, the easier the question the more tempted one is to answer. I have yet to know anyone who has ever won any of these things and would love to know where they are obliged to publish the details of such competitions. Surely ComReg would have a regulatory role in this instance?

It took her a half hour to find out the answer? Smartphones obviously haven't helped some people

In table quizzes it's very annoying. My team came third once in a college quiz and the other two teams were blatantly using their phones. 1st prize, a crate of beer. 2nd prize, bottle of whiskey. 3rd prize, box of sweets. We were not impressed.

Are you suggesting shenanigans in RTE?

Not at all, but I think we would all be amazed by the amount of money wagered in this way and as this is beamed into your homes, there should be some sort of transparency and accountability! I cannot see this being unregulated, there must be someone in charge of seeing it's all above board..Just wonder who is all?

Someone on Family Fortunes was once asked to name a bird with a long neck and he said "Naomi Campbell". I hope smartphones never stop idiots giving great answers like that.

Yes I suppose it has. You could say the same thing about homework.

Those competitions are deliberately easy anyway. Its table quizzes they have ruined.

    What was the question again?
