Daily Routines

First off - before you jump on me - I'm not claiming to be productive or successful. But one thing that I've been reading about lately is that the most productive people get up very early in the morning.

So, are early risers more productive than late risers and night owls? There are some reasons to suspect this is the case

First, people who get up very early tend to be very goal oriented. That is they have set up goals for themselves and they are typically motivated to get up early to start achieving those goals

Second, with some obvious exceptions, most people work in occupations and professions that begin in the morning. So, getting up early gives you a head start, and allows you to reflect on the day's challenges

Third, and based on my own experience, the most highly productive people tend to be early risers. THis may or may not be generalizable, but based on the above arguments, I think it does generalize

    What do you think?

The early bird catches the worm.

Not very productive for the worm to be an early riser.

Getting into the routine of being an early riser is difficult. But once you make the switch you'll find work getting done a lot sooner.

    My morning routine:

Up. Coffee. Shower. Light food. Dressed. Out the Door.

Should maybe put pushups in there somewhere... :o

They'd kinda weird routine, no offence meant.

Up, coffee, then get showered, then breakfast, then dressed?

Personally, I'm up, showered (helps wake and freshen up), dressed (right after shower,), coffee with breakfast.

    Ya freak. :D

From what I've read people who rise late and stay up late tend toward higher intelligence and more creativity. So if you're getting up early you're probably a great work horse but no sly fox. You certainly wouldn't be much of a goat with a mouse in your pocket.

In the Sunday Times magazine, in the 'Day in the Life' articles, where people talk about their daily routines.. almost all say they get up at ridiculously early hours such as 5.30 / 6.00 am...
And most of them are ridiculously successful. And ridiculously smug.
So maybe you're on to something.

I like to get up early between 6 and half 6. I'm not particularly sucessful or over ambitious. I've always been the same and I hate to be late as much as I hate to be rushed. Freaks me out to look at someone putting make-up on in the car or the bus like they got up too late to do it at home.
