After 130 years of ringing the bells of St. Barth's in ballsbridge are to be silenced due to complaints and the threat of heavy fines.
I say feck 'em they were ringing long before the complaining busy bodies were born, if they don't like it they should have moved to a bell free area.

    Hear hear. And ding dong.

If you read the full story you'll see the problem is the mechanism that stops the quarter, half and hourly chimes has failed. It never rang through the night but does now. The obvious answer would be to fix the damned thing but they have elected to stop the chimes altogether. There's no way anybody could tolerate any church bells rings every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day.

Bells ringing 4 times an hour 24 hours a day including in the small hours of the morning is never acceptable. To be hones even ringing at 12 for the angelus in some churches is a bit much when you want a lie in. But that is just me

I can't even imagine coming home from a hard days work and having to listen to bells chiming at all hours, completely correct to end that nonsense.

Should of been done 129 years ago.

Had a feeling there'd be more to it than chiming bells that are the same as they always were and a bunch of busybodies suddenly materialising after years and years of nobody minding.

Goddammit, I had a good rant prepared after not reading the article and now that you have explained what's really going on I can't bitch and moan about it.

I love the way people are saying that it is busy bodies giving out, tradition and all that b'''lox. Try living near it.. not just passing by and thinking 'oh, how quaint'.
