    Hello everyone,

My dad loves hunting in The Netherlands, but now that his daughter lives in Ireland, he would like to experience hunting in Ireland.

Is there any of you who would be willing to set my dad up for a day of hunting in the Galway/Connemara/Clare area? He's coming over in the last week of October.
What would need to be arranged in terms of his licence and gun?

    All advice welcome!

    Thanks

its a big ask for someone to do if they go about it above board which they should, insurance and legality side of things

what would you want him to hunt
if its a protected species he will need an irish deer hunting license etc which needs paper work etc to be filled in
he would also need a european fire arms passport to bring his rifle here (he might have one already if he hunted outside the netherlands before)

theres also documentation to be got from the guards for him to use the gun

    non resident license http://www.garda.ie/Documents/User/Non%20Resident%20Form%20Amended%20-%2016.1.13.pdf

    deer license http://www.npws.ie/licences/hunting/tohuntdeer/

his insurance in the netherlands should cover him here

pm me if ya need anymore questions

also you could pay some company to bring him but they charge a fortune

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I am looking for someone who will take him out for one or two days, obviously if there is a fee, we will pay it. I'd rather not send him with a company, because he would like to make it a personal experience. He hunts small game in the Netherlands and does not really mind what he gets to hunt here. It really is his hobby to go out with a (few) lad(s) and walk around, shoot some and have a drink afterwards.

He also hunts in The Netherlands, but only on invitation. He does not have his own land. He has a European Firearms passport, but we are too late to arrange for him to bring his own gun over. I'm unsure what the law says about using somebody elses gun?

I look forward to your answers.

He would need a visitors firearms licence to use someone's firearm. If he were to hunt deer then he would also need a deer licence from the NPWS.
He would only be able to use someone's gun on an authorized range other than that he needs a licence.

    Hi Juice

Thanks for the info. You have to apply for the firearms licence six weeks in advance though. He's coming in 5 weeks. Do you think there is a point in applying for it even though there is not the advised 6 weeks left?

I'm getting onto the Garda station as well tomorrow to ask them (this is where you apply right?)

I don't know to be honest as i have never done it myself. Your best bet is to see what they have to say.
Yes you apply to the district where you intend to hunt as far as i know.
