    I am a first time buyer but my girlfriend has bought before, where does the stamp duty law fall on this, does anyone know

    Straight 1% on the first 1,000,000 and 2% on all properties sold thereafter.
    No distinction made between first time buyer and non-first time buyer.
    Your only benefit is first-time-buyers don't pay property tax until 2016- you don't get treated any differently with stamp duty any more.
