vw golf light on dash

my 05golf epc light has just come on when driving home.after doing a quick search on the internet I think its either a blown fuse or the switch under the pedal..the car is down on power as in a bit sluggish.Do u think my assumption is correct or is it a more serious problem?? I am wondering is it better to bring to a garage and get plugged in to find the fault? also is it bad for the car to b driving wit this light on the dash??

Ok, I know this will sound a bit silly but...we had something like this happen in the past here; The light would not be red and look a little bit like this: (O) , this: (!) or this: (P), wouldn't it?

LOL Edit: it's the EPC light. Didn't read it, sorry. I'll leave the previous message for a laugh, I'm sure many here remember THAT thread

What engine ? What's the light i'e what is the symbol? Is it red or Orange?

Where are you located? Someone here myself included myight be able to scan it for you.

sorry it`s a 1.4 petrol golf. the light is an orange one EPC.I took it out for a drive since and the light went off when started and the power was back ok. A few minutes later the light came back on so back to square one again. Light is on but don't think power is down..

definitely safer to get a diagnostic scan done on it.

what county are you in? I might be able to recommend someone to you

I am in laois. the brake pedal switch came up on my search earlier..it looks a straight fordward job but as you said it would b safer to get the diagnostic done

Old thread though and i'm sure the OP got sorted, great thing about boards is there is always someone close by who can more than likely scan a car for free.
