    Hi,

Just wondering if there is anything worth watching in the cinema at the moment. Nothing stands out.

+1 for Rush really enjoyed it.

Havent seen it yet but 'Black Ice' is also in now... it stars Tommy from Love/Hate and looks like an Irish version of The Fast & The Furious. It can only be amazing.

Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Rush, The Great Beauty, Alpha Papa and Pieta are all worth your time.

I don't know your location though, all those are playing in IFI/Lighthouse.

Runner Runner, Prisoners and Blue Jasmine are out next weekend. Filth the weekend after that.

its been a pretty crap week alright.

ill probably go see RIPD. its meant to be bloody awfull but TBH nothing else appeals to me. i dont fancy rush as im not a racing fan and by all accounts the call has to be seen to be belived on the shyte scall (although apparently it goes mental 80 mins in and im kinda intrigued to see if it evolves into a "so bad its good film)

runner runner looks to be the next decent film to attract me

i am willing to give "black ice " a chance though.

I haven't see The Call but I really like Brad Anderson's previous films. I'll definitely check it out.

Have to agree Rush is excellent.

White House Down is worth the money as long as you go in with your brain switched off.

There hasn't been a good film in the cinema since Django. I'd say it'll be the new year by the time I go again. Nothing but dirt on at the moment.
Runner Runner looks atrocious, with pube head and brillo pad head in it.

The Great Beauty is an absolutely magnificent, intelligent and ethereal cinema experience. It's the kind of film I go the cinema for, just an overwhelming sensory and emotional experience. Home viewing will not to it justice - see it in the cinema.

I'd say the same thing about Upstream Colour, which should hopefully be doing the rounds in regional cinema clubs and arthouse screens about now.

Saw it the weekend, very much by the numbers but an ok way to spend an hour and a half. I didn't know it was a WWE studios movie til the opening credits.

Have you seen every film released since Django?

I didn't think Django was all that great myself

Come on, lads, let's not turn this into a tit-for-tat bitch fest. There's enough of that on other Boards sections.

Alpha Papa looks like great craic, if it's still out. Been meaning to see it, just never got around.

Wasn't bitching, was just asking what they've seen since I've watched dozens of films released this year that I'd easily recommend.

Off the top of my head:
    Zero Dark Thirty
    Lincoln
    Good Vibrations
    Mud
    Widjda
    Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa
    The Kings of Summer
    In A World
    Rush

I never got the praise behind Mud and Zero Dark Thirty myself, but some good stuff here and I'll contribute:

    Before Midnight
    Blancanieves
    The Conjuring
    Frances Ha
    The Great Beauty
    Like Someone In Love
    Much Ado About Nothing
    Only God Forgives
    Pacific Rim
    Place Beyond the Pines
    Post Tenebras Lux
    Robot and Frank
    Side Effects
    Spring Breakers
    Stoker
    Upstream Color
    The World's End
    You're Next

Oh, I can't believe I forgot about Before Midnight.
    Frances Ha was great also.

The review I read drew parallels with Zodiac not with the story but with the build up and detailed story telling. It sounds good.

Thats right. Actually, it reminded me of Seven where the story unfolds consistently against your expectations right up to the last minute. For that reason alone its worth seeing. The performances are also very good and of course Roger Deakins cinematography is great. I found the subject matter disturbing at the start, but thats eases off after a while. Best film Ive seen in the cinema this year, partly due to the fact its solid story telling rather than bells and whistles.

I thought The Call was actually a pretty decent thriller and it's rare to see a good thriller in cinemas any more.

It's a pretty decent thriller till that point when Berry leaves the center and then it turns into a generic and downright silly film whose ending is just abysmal.

I saw About Time the other night. Pretty good! Domhnaill Gleeson was really adorable as the awkward love sick boy and I love Rachel McAdams anyway. Gotta love anything with a love actually vibe!

Also +1 for Side Effects - Definitely worth watching

Just saw Filth, never read the book, so a lot of it was WTF.
    Great performance from James McAvoy.
