Any thoughts? Why would they advertise these positions mid Sept?

Loads of reasons. Somebody may have gotten a job closer to home and they need to fill the vacancy.

Maybe the job is filled and they have to advertise it anyway.

For the sake of a stamp, I'd apply!!

If they are advertising jobs it's because there are jobs there.

Won't even cost you a stamp as you apply online.

No doubt someone will be along shortly to tell us all that the VECs are corrupt and that there are really no jobs they are just going through the motions.

Absolutely agree. Apply, you never know what will happen. Maybe the job will be gone maybe not? For every one person who will tell you a story on corruption there will be someone who will tell you they got the job with no connections. Ireland is a small country everyone knows everyone!

My job was advertised in September, it was a late retirement. I started in October, still there 6 years later.

Apply. Even if the job 'doesn't exist' (unlikely at this time of year), the ETBs have a good enough panel system that you could get onto.
