Double Glazing and BER energy costs?

Have a period house and thinking about replacing old rotten single-glazed windows with hardwood-framed double-glazing sash windows.

However, running this I found the payback periods very bad. For example, for my 2 big double bay windows and 2 single windows - about 16M squared of glass - I got savings of about 150 pounds per year. Now I know that energy costs are higher here, etc but the payback on, even, say 3-4000 seems pretty bad?

Is this true or am I missing something?

Also, anyone know a good and easy place where you can estimate your annual energy costs in € not just Kwh/metres/year?

I don't think I have ever had a client look at payback period when it comes to windows. The fact they are single glazed and rotten should be enough reason to change them. If you try and work out a payback period on most items against the cost of installation then you wont go ahead with it.
