Hi all looking for some assistance with my 52 plate avensis 1.8vvti.

EML on, local garage diagnosed lambda sensor, had it replaced at a cost of £150 inc vat (it was the only fault found on diagnostics)

Drove the car for 10 mins and EML has come back on. Any thoughts please

    Thanks in advance

    Matt

Go back to that garage to read codes again (if it was me and if it was 10 min. really, I'd turn back immediately).

Some Toyota's are very fussy about the O2 sensors they use, and certainly earlier Corolla's and Carina E's needed the genuine article as pattern replacements simply weren't up to the job. I wonder does your Avensis fall into this category OP?

Its very strange how the Genuine Lambda sensors work when NGK branded ones won't do the job. I can only assume that its in the quality control that Toyota specify. Ford can have have the same issue.

As long as we don't know what code lights up EML this time, we can only guess. ;)

Yep same with Ford alright. I have a hunch that in addition to the sensor switching, that current monitoring by the ECU is also a factor.

There's also an even weirder known issue with certain Honda's where non-use of the genuine O2 sensor causes an EGR fault code to be flagged!

There are two Lambda sensors on the Avensis and as far as I know the code reader doesnt tell you which one is gone. One sensor is up near the manifold and the other one is underneath near the cat.I am driving around with the EML on for the last four or five years and the car passes NCT no bother
