Gave Ali absolute fits for three fights and was desperately unlucky in 1976 against Muhammad for the title not to get the decision, thought he clearly won that fight. Then to finally be awarded the WBC version in 1978 after Leon Spinks chose to fight Ali in a rematch and then have to fight a prime, hungry Larry Holmes for his first defense!! To win on one judges card and lose by a point on the other two and not to get a rematch shows how unlucky he was that he wasn't a world champion for longer. Could be susceptible early on against the big punchers but an excellent fighter who would have been a threat in any era.
    RIP

I always found it interesting that he gave Ali and Holmes so much trouble and yet was blown away by Foreman and Shavers. Goes to show about styles, Ali and Holmes were both jab-heavy outboxers, whereas the latter two were out and out sluggers.

    RIP.
