Is it a faulty pump

    Folks,

Just have a query about my track pump. I am not sure if anyone can advise as to if its faulty or not. Basically I changed a tube on my front wheel road bike yesterday. It has a presta valve and the pump is used for these valves however when I try and get a seal on the pump with the lever down and then lift it up when attahced to the valve it only pumps 40psi pressure into the tyre and blows off the valves. The valve is unscrewed at the tip on the tube the way it should be to accept air from the pump. Its funny because when I am trying to pump air into the tube aswell air is being forced out at the end of the valve. i.e it seems coming fro mthe hole where the valves is fed through the rim. The above probaly sounds confusing but could it be a faulty track pump that needs to be replaced?

Faulty valve more like. Try pumping the other tube. if it works..pump is OK.

sometimes the pumps come with a small part in the head that supports both type valves ( small plastic bit) mite need to turn it around for presta size

did you press in the valve head a touch to free it up before pumping? i.e. let the air out a bit before you put it in?

thanks folks for the advice. I am going to give it another go this eve. I am going to have to double check I didn't pierce the tube when fitting it.

If you pierced the tube, you wouldn't be getting anywhere near 40psi.
