Wipe laptop clean without CD?

    Hi,

I've got a Dell Inspiron N411z laptop that's 18 months old. I use it purely for internet and downloading the odd movie/series (via torrents).

It's gotten really slow to the point that youtube clips freeze and it sounds like a hair dryer sometimes.

I have nothing of value on it so can afford to lose everything. What's the best way to wipe it/format it etc. without reboot/Windows CDs?

If possible I'd prefer not to have to completely wipe it as I'd like to keep all my bookmarks in Chrome, but whatever works best!

    Thanks in advance

Easiest method is factory restore (F8 after the POST screen > Repair > Dell factory recovery).

Im pretty sure, Chrome has a bookmark manager. Export your bookmarks and save them on a USB stick before you restore the laptop.

You could check if it has a factory restore partition. Check in DiskManagement. Downside - you need to download all Windows updates again. You could maybe export the Chrome bookmarks.

Alternatively, ccleaner, chkdsk, defrag. Check running processes in Task Manager. Get the fluff out of the cooling system.
