Buying UK Import from garage

    Hi
I test drove a 2012 Toyota Avensis today. 2 Ltr diesel with 21000 miles on the clock. Though it was a great car, with all the extras I want. Price 21k.
Its a main dealer on the Navan road. Only issue is that when I got inquiring its a UK import, which I don't have a problem with really as its a very high spec car. My only concern is that as I have no way of verifying the millage.
There is a cartel report that shows when it was registered and a request from April made by the revenue to check the millage. I presume that this is when it was registered in Ireland. The sales guy gave me the we bring in cars all the same dealer in the UK all the time and wouldnt buy anything we were not sure about, and its due its first services now that's why there is no stamps on the book. The warranty is until April 2015. Am i just being paranoid here or is there anything else I can ask for.
    Thanks in advance

Just ask him for the UK reg and do a check on that.

Very unusual for it not to have had one service by 21k miles. My old man bought a UK Auris back in 2010 with 15k miles on the clock and service history, it was sourced from a Toyota dealer in the UK where it was serviced at 12k miles.

Mileage can be verified by getting the UK registration and running your own history checks on it. What would really concern me is if it is only getting it's first oil change now at 21k miles.

Don't be afraid to walk away as there are plenty of Avensis out there for sale including UK imports:

    Thanks for replies.

The dealer has the UK history check. I can see no outstanding finance. I don’t really understand these checks for millage. If the car was never put through the MOT or sold previously would it not be normal for there to be no millage record on the report? I probably would run into warranty issues with Toyota if it missed its first service.

BAzz26 - I saw that car as well but though 38k miles was a bit much.

Well I'd rather a 38k miles car which has been serviced on time than a 21k miles car with nothing done. 38k miles is hardly massive in the grand scheme of things.
