    Hi All,

Was just looking to get a set of winter tyres. I will be driving in Europe a bit in Winter and going forward and are legally required in some countries.

Found steel rims for the car (http://www.oponeo.co.uk/steel-wheel/alcar-kfz-9873) from Magneto and Alcar, i presume no disadvantage to any particular wheels once they are matched to the car, these ones are 16in rims. Now I do wonder is it worth getting steel wheels or just sticking with winter tyres and swapping on to my alloys....

So basically its 18in Winter tyres on existing alloys or 16in winter tyres on steel rims...

Any thoughts. My thoughts are 16in wheels on the car will look a bit funny...but may be better placed

    Ta

Have ypu priced up winters in 18"? the are quite expensive.

When i had my old A4 i picked up a set of 17" Audi sport alloys for 150e second hand and refurbed them, the are one oof the nicest OEM wheel for the A4/A6.

These wheels..( the come up for sale alot on donedeal as people like to upgrade to stupid replica 'felt spec wheels lol)

€230 each give or take for 18in winter tyres. About half that for 16in tyres + €50 each for steel rims.

That's almost 100e more a piece than a Goodyear F1 aymettric crazy money for a winter tyre.

230 x 4 = 910e for winter tyres,4 17" tyres would cost around 600 quid, that leaves you 300e to buy a decent set of OEM 17" alloys, that means in sunsequent winters you can change them over yourself you don't need to be bring your car into a garage to get the tyres swapped over.

yeh...slightly concerned about the appearance...was just thinking.winter...bad weather...easier to damage alloys...but I guess if I had a Lambo i wouldnt be looking at steel rims...so maybe i should throw that idea out now...

Could be on to something about oem alloys, any recommended sites to look at?

The are the very same winter tyre i used a few years ago, i found them excellent. Cheapest place i found with them was discount tyres in blanch, ask for Keith.

Yup, good set, I have the Snowtracs and they are the best set of Winters i've had for noise anyway.

Had a set of Fuldas before them and they were much noisier.
