Yeah I know it's very early but the tickets are already on sale and I'm thinking it will be cheaper to book everything sooner than later. Any advice from people who've gone previous years?

Only aircraft announced so far are these guys - http://www.greatwardisplayteam.com/index.html

I was just about to ask the very same thing. I was thinking of splitting it up over the friday and sunday but upon reading a uk airshow forum i am not hopeful of the sunday being good. Bear in mind these lads are complete aircraft geeks (nothing wrong with that!) so if they don't see the latest and greatest they get upset. Too right. Apparently quite a few planes bugger off before the weekend once the trade deals are done but that leaves the public out.

In any case, tickets aren't the cheapest when you factor in a few kids so i'm torn between:
    1. friday-trade day but public tickets available. Less planes will have left, less people around, altogether less stressful. But £300 for 2 adults and 3 kids...
    2. saturday- public day, mad crowds, some planes may have gone. £160 for 2 adults and 3 kids on deckchairs, sectioned off from the maddening crowds. "She" might approve...:D

Into the bargain, the grandstand tickets are expensive and Her Indoors is pushing hard for these, especially after the "flightfest debacle" we had where we more or less stood for hours and hours while trying to maintain the kids interest. Ok, farnborough is a whole other league but she is still adamant about those grandstand seats.
I noticed there is a deckchair area for those who want to sit but can't afford to. That might just work if she is in a good mood when i broach the subject.

I could just bring a bunch of deckchairs but that would get ugly within 2 minutes after getting out of the car. Hmm.
Here's a link to the tickets:
    http://farnborough.seetickets.com/event/farnborough-airshow-2014/farnborough-aerodrome/734546

Standard adults tickets are £38 and kids are free.
The fun starts when you want to sit down:
Deckchair seating: £59 for adult, £14 for kids. It goes all the way up after that!

They also mention "enclosure access" but i'm unsure what they mean by this. Is it in around the parked planes?

Any other views on this? I am taking the family to London for a holiday from 17th to 21st July, would like to take in Farnborough but not keen on standing (in the heat!), the crowds and the price. 2 adults and 2 kids

I was going to go on the Sunday but not so sure after reading the above

The way i see it now is that anything more than the deckchair seating option is just overkill. The reason we'll be there is to see and hopefully touch the planes. Sitting on a grandstand wont really make that better, other than to allow you to see the landings better. But if you're serious about that you'll have come early and got a good place at the fence by the runway. They are up in the air after that and everyone sees the same thing.
The parked planes will only be looked at if you are beside them and therefore not in a grandstand or anywhere else.
Again, the grandstands are a waste.
Deckchairs max, maybe general access and bring picnic gear. Weather permitting that would be very nice indeed.
Going to get my tickets soon and she is still adamant about deckchairs minimum. Wuss!
She doesnt know what hardship is. Back in my time, i tell ya!

Some info on RIAT 2013 should help you with decisions for 2014 as discussed in this thread earlier on this year.
