Do I need to pay VAT as an overseas non-EU sole trader?

I am giving a conference in Ireland in two months time and am charging customers in Ireland for this through my website.

I am a sole trader from outside of the EU.

Just wondering do I need to register for VAT and pay VAT on the service I am providing to my Irish customers?

    Thank you.

Have you gone over the threshold? These are questions you should really be asking your accountant.

It doesn't matter where you are from by the way, being tax resident is what matters!

Haven't sold any tickets yet so no income generated.

I would have thought selling a service in Ireland from a non-EU country would require paying tax to the state regardless of residency?

Not necessarily. I go on business trips to London for example, selling services to a UK company. But I pay my tax in Ireland not the UK.

Since you are non-eu this complicates matters, you need to talk to an international tax advisor.

Actually for VAT it is generally more apposite to establish whether there is an "establishment" in the particular jurisdiction through which the services are provided.

Yep I thought he was based in Ireland originally. However it seems not from subsequent posts.

My business is based outside the EU and my accountant has informed me because I am selling a service overseas to Irish customers that I do not need to pay tax on this in my own non-EU country.

However, I wonder do I need to pay VAT to the Irish state?

Ring the Irish tax office and ask them: http://www.revenue.ie/en/contact/lo-call.html
