citizenship documents

Just got my notification from Immigration that my citizenship application has been approved and to submit my fee along with my GNIB card. Does anyone know if I can travel to UK without the GNIB card or can I ask for my Card back after submitting it to them. There is a sentence on the notice that states submit fee, GNIB, Photos and "Original travel documents (if applicable)"

Is this last bit referring to documents if you are intending to travel soon, or are you just stuck with not being able to leave the country while your waiting for the ceremony and then Irish passport?

Can anyone let me know if I can travel on a pre booked trip I had planned without my GNIB.

"Original travel documents (if applicable)" refers to people who have no national passport from their own country e.g. refugees. It has nothing to do with forthcoming travel arrangements.

As regards travel back from UK, as long as you have a valid re-entry visa on your passport and you carry your citizenship approval letter with you, if asked for your GNIB card just show the letter & explain that you have submitted it to INIS for your citizenship processing. You should also take a photocopy of your GNIB card & show this with your citizenship approval letter.

For your own peace of mind you should verify the above with an official source:

Contact your local Garda District Headquarters (if living outside Dublin): http://www.garda.ie/Stations/Default.aspx

    or if living in Dublin:

    Garda National Immigration Bureau

    13/14 Burgh Quay
    Dublin 2
    Ireland

    Opening Hours:Mon to Thurs inclusive: 8am to 9pm, Friday 8am to 6pm
    Tel:+353 1 666 9100
    Homepage: http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=31
    Email: gnib_dv@garda.ie

Or contact the INIS using details from the notification letter.

Just wondering if you managed traveling to the UK without the GNIB card. I am facing the same situation now. Thanks.
