    Hi,

Doing a bit of fact finding on milk replacers to try and pick the best one for a a small test group of calves I'm thinking of rearing next year.....just want to compare and contrast vs a group I had last year I reared "the way I usually do it"...no complaints, they are grand but just curious

Anyone know where I can find any independent research on what components are most important to get the best thrive, prevent scour and boost immune system etc...And at what sort of levels %of the feed

ie: whats the optimum level of crude protein, crude fat, %lactose, vitamins copper etc....is ash just in there as a filler etc............is it the more the merrier (within reason/obv not 100%) with protein and fats as long as its derived from milk rather than veg oils or at what levels are most calves just passing it through their digestive system and not getting any benefit

Also can the spec/nutrition information quoted by feed companies be trusted do ye think...how are they verified?

had a search and think this has not been asked before:o

Skim based milk replacers are way ahead of whey based replacers ;) Whey based runs through them where as skim based take longer to digest and are better for the calf. I have been using whey based over the last few years and changed to skim based this year the calves were a lot healthier and no scour :)

Shine oad. Calves switched from yogurt milk to shine. The other thing about shine is that you can mix it with milk as well.

I'll have to check the bag in the morning to answer that, I tried their website but no mention of ingredients.
